Summary of subject content: GCSE Design and Technology, enables students to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques. This specification requires students to develop their knowledge of woods, metals, plastics, textiles, electronics, smart and composite materials. Students study a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes in the 'Core Technical Principles' section. In 'Specialist Technical Principles' students study a smaller range of materials and processes in greater detail.
Progression routes: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) employers have a huge skills gap that is creating new career opportunities on an unprecedented scale. This course could lead to A level Product Design and then to university degrees in Product Design or many similar courses. Technical Apprenticeship.
