Visit to Westminster

Meg Melvyn and KatieTwo Year 13 NK students from the North Hykeham Joint Sixth Form were invited by BBC Radio Lincolnshire to join them on a visit to the Houses of Parliament on the 25th January. Katie and Megan, who are studying A-Level Government and Politics, along with a selection of Radio Lincolnshire listeners were driven down by coach, provided with a tour of the House of Lords and allowed the opportunity to quiz our local Lincolnshire MPs about issues that really matter to young people. Katie questioned Edward Leigh MP about costs relating to school transport while Megan focussed on how young people can afford to purchase their own homes. Programme presenter Melvyn Prior contacted us to say that both students were great ambassadors for North Kesteven School while programme producer commented that "they really were a credit to your school - and contributed some great questions to the MPs discussions". Our thanks go to BBC Radio Lincolnshire for inviting us to take part.

Form 9AA chose this charity as part of the Year 9 PSD Giving Nation Project.  The form group organised a name the teddy competition and ‘mocktails’ were also sold at lunchtime under the canopy. The form chose this charity as they wanted to raise awareness of Mind and all the work that it undertakes relating to mental health.

Sports Sponsorship

Ethan Grace RichesEthan Grace Richards in Year 8 is a very talented swimmer and is competing at regional level with the goal of training at Midlands level in 2017.

He is being sponsored by the Adam Gibbons Sports Foundation which will assist him to continue to compete at this level and reach his full potential. The charity has donated over £55,000 in the past six years and has previously sponsored another NKS student, Georgina Adam in Year 11 who is the national 200m record holder at under 17 level.

The charity was set up in 2008 in memory of Adam Gibbons who was 18 years old when he suddenly passed away. After leaving Cherry Willingham Community School he attended Lincoln College where he completed a Sports and Fitness Diploma and was three weeks into a Sport Development and Coaching degree at the University of Lincoln. He enjoyed playing a variety of sports including football, badminton and judo. The charity aims to help talented young sports men and women in Lincolnshire to reach their potential by making donations which could assist them with aspects of their development, for example, training costs, buying equipment, coaching and travel costs. All of the money donated by the foundation has been collected via various fundraising events that take place throughout the year.
