Fundraising Challenge

Work Skills May 2016Year 12 students studying Workskills completed their assessed team challenge by organising a charity event in aid of Dementia UK. They organised a cake sale and an event in which teachers volunteered to go in the stocks for students from across the school to pay to throw wet sponges at them. A thoroughly fun and successful lunchtime of fundraising with a total of £138.78 being raised! Thank you to the teachers and students who supported the event!

Spanish Exchange Programme

Spanish visitors May 2016We were delighted once again to welcome Spanish students and staff from the Colegio Virgen del Carmen School near Cordoba.  Our guests spent a week with us, and whilst here experienced all that the British weather can offer, from hail and rain to 25 degree sunshine and blue skies! The students spent two days in classes at NK and used the other days to explore Lincoln and Newark along with having a day in our capital city.  We really value our strong partnership with this school and look forward to our visit to them in 2017!

National School Photograph Awards 2016

Photography
Jamie Stallwood a Year 11 Photography student has had his photograph shortlisted for the FS Design National School Photography awards. Jamie’s photograph entitled ‘Quick Exit’ is one of only 35 to be selected in the secondary school category.

The photo is of a Finnish Air Force (FiAF) F/A-18C Hornet from no.11 fighter squadron pulling away at 500mph from its final display pass at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) in 2015.

It was shot using a Canon 70D coupled with a Sigma 150-500 lens shot with a shutter speed of 1/640th of a second at ISO 200 and an aperture of F6.3 with Image Stabilisation turned off. Image editing software was used to sharpen and crop the image as well as turning up the clarity and turning down the saturation making the image black and white.

The results of the completion will be announced at the end of the month. We wish Jamie the best of luck with his entry !

SAM Learning

NK SCHOOL 30Currently an amazing 973 pupils in Years 7 to 11 are now using SAM learning to help them improve their understanding in a range of subjects from English, Maths, Science, History and many others. We are well on target to beat last year's usage of 7000 hours and are currently one of the top schools in the country for the amount of time that pupils are spending on this website. Research has proven that if students at any level spend over 10 hours in a whole year, they are likely to have a significant increase in the levels that they achieve in exams and tests. Epraise points will continue to be awarded for pupils spending time independently on this website to reward their efforts.
